I must say that being home in the weeks between chemotherapy is better than being in the hospital, but poor J may disagree. This is a quick rundown of his woes.
Headaches. Every day. And the noise of the house doesn't help I'm sure.
Leg aches. His legs get achy around his knees when he stands still. Sitting or pacing helps a bit.
Lack of energy. Yep, he's anemic right now and that tends to make people feel tired all the time.
Belly pains. Not sure how much is still his incision, or where the staples were, or hunger pangs, or just gas for all I know.
Neupogen shots. That's the medicine that makes the bone marrow wake up and start producing white blood cells. Daily shot. He's been getting it in the back of his arms (which are so skinny, it almost seems like torture to keep poking him there).
But the worst is a sore he has on the side of his tongue. It's not a canker like he had before, but it's an imprint from the space maintainer he wears. Probably a few tiny cuts. He doesn't want to do anything that requires moving his tongue. No talking. No drinking. No eating. No taking medicines that could help with a few of the above problems. No swishing his mouth numbing medicine long enough to make a difference. And he is not eating enough.
He is able to distract himself with a few things.
He built a new Lego set today.
He has read some new books.
His school teacher came and tutored him on some of his school work (although today he just couldn't get past the pain).
He has watched hours of television.
But the moment I suggest he needs to eat...or move...The moans and groans quickly return.
Poor guy.
